The Omen

I'm not superstitious in any way.

Although I don't walk under ladders, if I spill the salt, I throw a few grains over my shoulder, panic if I break a mirror, don't cross the path of a black cat, nor pass anyone on the stairs. And generally avoid doing anything on Friday 13th.

However, I've decided to take as a good omen being given an American Dime in my change this morning.

I shall also celebrate with a glass of something tonight in the hope that the 44th President of the United States will live up to the promise.

  1. I've read the first of the Obama books - about his journey to find meaning to his life. Written before anyone could have harboured even the tiniest hope that an African American could become president, it is remarkably honest and bares his soul. Based on that book and what I've seen of him so far, I'm hopeful that Barack Obama, about to be the most powerful man in the world, will be a force for good.

It's as good a reason as any celebrate with a glass of something (alcoholic).

And I wonder...where is the British equivalent of Obama?

  2. I got a text from my good friend Vandana first thing this morning wishing me a happy Obama day. She does something frightfully important for the government and was COMING HOME EARLY (in capitals for emphasis) to watch him on Tv, that never happens !

  3. Watched it all on TV this afternoon. A very emotional speech, amazing crowds and even the weather in Washington came up trumps (blue sky, even if it was very cold). Let's hope it is the start of something great.

  4. I watched it too, and felt really quite emotional.

I'm with Robert - where is the British Obama?

  5. We watched it in the office...well defintiely more significant and interesting than anything going on here!

Robert - I have a feeling that our Obama was Tony Blair, but he turned out to be the prefect embodiment of 'Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely' I hope I'm wrong, and there is someone in the wings

AG - good for her, and I hope the feel good factor rolls on

Rosie - yes I've read lots into the sunny weather they had. It's another omen

NVG - you're right; hopefully a defining moment. And such a relief after the last eight years

  6. I hope Obama knows how much he is being watched, and he uses it for the good!
